Have often wondered why no geothermal heat pumps around here the one we had in NC worked extremely well, however it worked by circulating ground water through the closed system.

Great... I have a loop system involving 6 x 150 ft 6 ft deep trenches with slinky coiled 1" black poly embeded in sand in the pasture and a 400ft run to the house. Filled with water and 10% methyl alcohol to prevent freezing... Coldest over winter was 37 deg incoming and 33 deg outgoing back to the field. The compressor is 3.7KW and the system heats the whole 2600sqft house. I have HVAC experience and installed the system myself.

Now that heat pump technology is developing units that can be installed in the colder climes it seemed like this article might be interesting to people of the valley.
