Muckamuck Fire Update
August 18, 2021
Fire Information: (509) 202-4184
Email: 2021.muckamuck@firenet.gov
#muckamuckfire
Start Date: August 4, 2021 Cause: Lightning Size: 10,867 acres Containment: 5%
Location: Approximately three miles northeast of Conconully
Resources Assigned: 150 personnel approximately 400 other personnel shared by Cub Fire
-Current Situation: Strong winds from the north with gusts up to 35 mph impacted the fire area yesterday. Firefighters, with the help of aviation assets, were able to hold the fire and no significant growth occurred. Fire behavior was very active with surface fire, some short range spotting and crown fire runs backing into the wind. Dozers worked to construct line west of Mineral Hill and firefighters prepared for structure defense in the town. No homes have been destroyed but the threat to the 387 homes in the area will remain until the established lines along the fire’s edge can be controlled around and above Conconully.
Today on the southwest portion of the fire west of Mineral Hill hand crews will continue constructing line where the dozers left of yesterday. When winds become favorable a tactical firing operation will tie the constructed line into the main body of the fire. This operation is intended to address southern spread. Firefighters will be scouting for areas to build primary and contingency indirect lines to address north-eastern spread. Due to the heavy dead and downed fuel loading there is a high potential for the fire to spot to the east if weather conditions are aligned. Residents in areas nearby or east of the fire are encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts through Okanogan County Emergency Management.
Weather: Temperatures 7-10 degrees warmer with light northwest wind and low humidity
-Closures and Restrictions:
• Closure Order: 06-21-09-21-10 Southern Cub Creek 2 issued by the Colville National Forest has closed numerous areas, trails, and roads in and around the fire area
• FS Road 3700100 is closed at the junction with FS Road 4200000 west of Conconully
• FS Road 3800015 is closed at the forest boundary north of Conconully
• Mineral Hill Road is closed just west of Conconully
-Evacuations:
• Level Three: Salmon Meadows-Kerr, Mineral Hill, West Fork-Conconully, and the area immediately surrounding the town limits of Concunully
• Level One: The area within the town limits of Conconully
Evacuation Center: United Methodist Church, 130 North Cedar St., Omak. (509) 422-7348

Muckamuck Fire Update
August 17, 2021
Fire Information: (509) 202-4184
Email: 2021.muckamuck@firenet.gov
#muckamuckfire
Start Date: August 4, 2021 Cause: Lightning Size: 10,867 acres Containment: 5%
Location: Approximately three miles northeast of Conconully
Resources Assigned: 89 personnel
A virtual community meeting will be held today at 6:30 pm. To attend navigate to https://usfs.zoomgov.com/j/1619828218
Current Situation: Yesterday the Muckamuck fire remained active. A low pressure system passing through North Central Washington brought gusty winds to the fire area. Fire ran through the crowns of trees on the ridges where the winds were the strongest and the fire spread to the east. Firefighters remained in Conconully to build on the strong work following Sunday night’s battle after the fire ran 4 ½ miles into the community. Roughly 3 miles of line were fired Monday on the southwest portion of the fire near Mineral Hill to strengthen dozer lines constructed over the last few days. No homes have been destroyed but the threat to the 387 homes in the area will remain until the established lines along the fire’s edge can be controlled around and above Conconully.
Today winds will shift to north and northwest and temperatures will cool. Fire behavior will remain active. The winds may help the effort by slowing the fire’s growth to the north. Plans for the day are to mop up the area fired above Mineral Hill and to bolster additional lines to protect Conconully.
Residents in areas nearby or east of the fire are encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts through Okanogan County Emergency Management.
Weather: Today will be the coolest day of the week with temperatures in the high 70s to low 80s. There is a slight chance of showers and afternoon thunderstorms.
Closures and Restrictions:
• Closure Order: 06-21-09-21-10 Southern Cub Creek 2 issued by the Colville National Forest has closed numerous areas, trails, and roads in and around the fire area

Town of Conconully

Good Morning. All is well in Conconully. The fire did burn down to the Edge of Town last night. It was stopped just behind the Cabins. No structures were lost except for a chicken coop and one old empty cabin north of Town. The fire pretty much stopped at Mineral Hill Rd. Everything out the West Fork from the City limits out did not burn on either side of the road. On the upper lake the fire burnt down to the road (except where there were structures and was stopped behind any structures on the left hand side. Still pretty smokey, with many hot spots still smoldering. For the most part, the fire danger is past, however any of those hot spots, or falling trees could cause problems. Thank you all for your prayers and kind thoughts.

Muckamuck Fire Update
August 16, 2021
Fire Information: (509) 202-4184
Email: 2021.muckamuck@firenet.gov
Start Date: August 4, 2021 Cause: Lightning Size: 8,200 acres Containment: 5%
Location: Approximately three miles northeast of Conconully
Resources Assigned: 89 personnel
Current Situation: The gusty westerly winds that were predicted for the area materialized in the early afternoon yesterday. Red Flag Warning conditions brought extreme fire behavior as winds pushed the fire to the east. The fire quickly spotted across the 38 Road into receptive fuels and ran 4 ½ miles in an hour. This movement to the east prompted several Level 3 evacuations to be declared by Okanogan County Emergency Management prior to the fire moving into the Conconully community last night. Fire behavior is expected to remain active today. The Muckamuck Fire is the priority fire of the four currently managed by the incident management team.
The primary focus of the firefight today will be the protection of structures in and around Conconully. Available resources have been shifted to the area from the Cedar Creek and Cub Creek fires to assist in the effort. Helicopters and fixed wing air tankers will assist if conditions allow. Firefighters will work to establish control lines along the fire’s edge where possible and to scout ahead of the fire to plan for potential impacts on nearby communities and values at risk. The fire is expected to grow to the south and east. Residents in areas nearby or east of the fire are encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts through Okanogan County Emergency Management.
Weather: A cold front will move through the area. The benefit of cooler temperatures may be offset by the westerly winds that accompany the front. Temperatures will be in the high 70s to low 80s. Humidity will remain low and wind gusts are predicted to reach the upper teens by mid-afternoon.
Closures and Restrictions:
• Closure Order: 06-21-09-21-10 Southern Cub Creek 2 issued by the Colville National Forest has closed numerous areas, trails, and roads in and around the fire area
• FS Road 3700100 is closed at the junction with FS Road 4200000 west of Conconully

Okanogan County Fire Dist 6

The Muckamuck fire threatened to take the town of Conconully last night. Several neighboring districts sent what help they could. The burn out operation lasted thru the night until State Mobilization units arrived to replace mutual aid crews. There is a lot of work ahead to secure the town, but we got a good start!

#MuckamuckFire Update
August 15, 2021
Fire Information: (509) 202-4184
Email: 2021.muckamuck@firenet.gov
Current Situation: Building on the completion of the initial line around the perimeter of the Muckamuck Fire the previous day, crews were able to focus their attention on direct attack and strengthening contingency lines. Terrain and weather conditions were in our favor allowing scooper planes and helicopters to drop water on the fire. As the fire moves into spruce trees there is a higher possibility of spot fires, any spots would be short range if it does occur. Night patrols will continue over the next few days.
Today, line construction will continue, with air support as visibility allows. The SE portion, Division Oscar, towards Muckamuck Pass is the priority as our fire fighters focus on stopping forward progress of the fire. Several mechanical resources are being used to remove hazards and build line, including dozers, skidders and chippers. Hazard trees are being removed to help ensure the safety of our fire fighters.
The Conconully area is in a level one evacuation notice. Citizens and visitors are reminded to be aware of their surroundings and ready to evacuate should the need arise.
Weather: A red flag warning is in effect with wind gusts up to 30 mph. Humidity will remain low with temperatures cooling down five degrees from yesterday.
Closures and Restrictions:
Closure Order: 06-21-09-21-10 Southern Cub Creek 2 issued by the Colville National Forest has closed numerous areas, trails, and roads in and around the fire area

Muckamuck Fire Update
August 14, 2021
Fire Information: (509) 202-4184
Email: 2021.muckamuck@firenet.gov
Start Date: August 4, 2021 Cause: Lightning Size: 1,648 acres Containment: 5%
Location: Approximately three miles northeast of Conconully
Resources Assigned: 84 personnel
Current Situation: Crews were able to build an initial line around the perimeter of the Muckamuck Fire and will be working on improving that line in the coming days. Terrain and weather conditions have provided an opportunity for crews to mop up the north side of the fire to gain 5% containment. All spot fires from the previous day were able to be contained and mopped up. Due to smoke in the area there was limited air support. Night patrols will continue over the next couple days. Previous night shifts have focused on laying hose on the north side. The fire has remained active at night with group trees torching as late as 2 a.m. with ember movements, but no new spots.
Today, with the arrival of additional resources direct attack as well as contingency line contstruction will take place. The SE portion towards Muckamuck Pass will be priority today with morning operations preparing for the wind shifting from the west today. Westerly winds are expected to blow smoke into the area. This may bring visibility below the minimum level for air support to safely fly.
Weather: The weather will begin to turn cooler with winds coming in from the west by midday. This will lead to more smoke over the Muckamuck Fire and Okanogan Valley. It is expected to lift in the Valley by evening.

#MuckamuckFire - August 13, 2021
Fire Information: (509) 202-4184
Email: 2021.muckamuck@firenet.gov
Start Date: August 4, 2021 Cause: Lightning Size: 1,648 acres Containment: 0%
Location: Approximately three miles northeast of Conconully
Resources Assigned: 54 personnel
Current Situation: Crews were able to work directly on the fire’s north and south perimeter on Thursday. They were aided by multiple helicopters throughout the operational period. Clear skies and moderate winds caused some active fire behavior in the morning. As smoke from local and Canadian fires settled into the area the fire calmed down. As the fire backs slowly down slope the fuel models will change from the heavy dead and downed fuels. The fire has grown primarily to the southwest and has reached an open grass meadow where spot fires will be easier to identify and line by firefighters on the ground.
Today firefighters will continue to go direct on the fireline as conditions allow. Air support will be available to them as needed. Indirect lines are also being prepped due to the heavy fuel loading and inaccessibility on the east side of the fire. These lines will provide a contingency should the fire spot over the direct line. The overall plan for the incident is full suppression to keep the perimeter as small as possible.
Today California Interagency Incident Management Team 2 (CIIMT2) under the command of Mike Minton assumed command of the Muckamuck, Cub Creek 2, Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires.
Weather: An Excessive Heat Warning has been declared through Saturday
Closures and Restrictions:
• Forest Closure Order 06-12-09-21-10 issued by the Colville National Forest has closed numerous areas, trails and roads in and around the fire area
• FS Road 37 is closed at the junction with FS Road 42. FS Road 38 is closed at the forest boundary north of Conconully
• FS Road 38 is closed at the forest boundary north of Conconully
