There is a kind of a recurring problem where the standard tech Google and Apple use for authentication and security are more than sufficient if nobody knows who you are, they are nowhere near good enough if someone is specifically targeting you.

And if you are the president's kids (or a celebrity or high-profile businessperson or midlevel politician) someone is almost certainly targeting you.

It is disturbing that both Hunter and his sister have suffered having their private items and thus privacy itself stolen for the sake of political means is itself revelatory. These are the children of a political figure, who do not hold govt office and so often we hear of hear from the Right that the children should be left out of political discourse. The ones that stole Hunter's sister's journal from her room have been prosecuted. Here's hoping that Rudy G and the others who grabbed the laptop pay a price.

Don't know if you saw the Musk announcement that he was releasing internal memos about how Twitter management had withheld info on Hunter Biden's laptop just before the '20 election.
