Re: FBI Raid on Mar-A-Lago
Yes, docs were from NSA, CIA & FBI. And there were too many people who had access to the docs who were not even close to being vetted for security which adds to the worry/reality that copies could be strewn round the world. And then, of course, it won't be known for sometime if and how many docs are still missing. Trump may not be the only one that saw the $ value.

Re: FBI Raid on Mar-A-Lago
Yes, utterly insane.
It is unlikely that his collection of over 300 classified documents was completely composed of documents classified for silly bureaucratic reasons. At least some of those, including the Top Secret/SCI documents, probably had serious national defense information whose compromise would cause serious harm to our country and the safety and well-being of its citizens.
Let's not forget that the obvious real reason he had those documents was to sell them to enemies of America.

Re: FBI Raid on Mar-A-Lago
NYT now reporting that so far 300 classified docs, including ones of the highest Top Secret classifications were stolen by Trump. In the words of Jim Wright, a retired Signals Intel agent:
'Trump took 300+ classified documents. And not just classified documents, but material classified as Special Access.
That's not stuff he can declassify.
This is unbelievably bad.
It's so bad, I can't tell you how bad it is or exactly WHAT it is without risk of violating my own oath.
It's so bad, that we may not be able to access the damage without making it infinitely worse. We have to assume these programs are compromised and act accordingly, no matter the cost. And it's going to cost BILLIONS.
It's so bad, that if you were a security officer trying to game out theoretical worst case scenarios, the idea that any president would do something like this would be so insane that you likely wouldn't even consider the possibility (of course, they will have to from now on, holy crap).
If you were writing a spy thriller and you submitted this as a story idea to your publisher, she'd likely have you dragged from her office by security and dumped in the alley behind the building.
This is utterly insane. It's beyond insane.'

The work of sorting through the documents is more than intense as the filter teams who must determine which documents are privileged and so will be withheld from the investigation to the other agencies which must review the classified docs to see what classifications they held when Trump left office and then what classification they hold today.

Re: FBI Raid on Mar-A-Lago
Good piece from DK. Since he wrote that the DoJ has filed their argument of why the underlying affadavit should not be unsealed. In their argument is included a statement that this would be detrimental to ongoing investigations and they use a particular note that refers to a grand jury.
Indeed Trump is trying to make a whole lot of noise around this but as a former prosecutor pointed out, pay attention to the Trump team filings in court. They can make all the noise they want out in the wild, but it's the court filings that matter. In that respect there have been none.
By the hour the walls are closing in around Trump.

Lengthy but spot on! The writer - someone with extensive experience with classified documents - easily dismisses all the weak defense of the orange ones actions.

Re: FBI Raid on Mar-A-Lago
Well there is the ongoing House investigation of Jared's $2 billion deal. There's also the big question to determine who it was that enabled Trump to get these docs; Radcliffe? Jared? And of course the question of whether and how many times they were copied and/or disceminated among people without clearance and did various foreign entities get access? With Trump & Company there's always more.

I can't shake the feeling that there aren't more shoes to drop on this topic. Probably that shoe will be a big stinky boot.

Re: FBI Raid on Mar-A-Lago
NYT reporting that yes there was a witness to the classified docs that had not been turned over to the DoJ the first round. Not too many people would have that kind of access, or to be ballsy enough to check it out before they picked up the phone to tell the FBI. Apparently, whoever this person is, their credibility panned out and the DoJ now has the receipts.

Re: FBI Raid on Mar-A-Lago
Yep.
Also, there are clear markings on classified documents. Part of the process of declassifying a document is removing those markings and placing a declassification stamp on those documents. If those things aren't done the document is still classified.
This also leaves out the fact that classified nuclear weapons secrets have to be declassified with a different process and the President can't just declassify them by saying they are declassified.
The whole thing about the declassification also contradicts with the claim that evidence was planted. Why would the FBI plant declassified documents?

Jim Wright:
'"Trump declassified the documents"
Say that's true. It's not, but let's say it is.
HOW DO THE NON-TRUMP ADMINISTRATION PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FOR THOSE DOCUMENTS KNOW THEY ARE DECLASSIFIED?
Because those people will go to jail for mishandling classified material BUT ALSO for not releasing declassified material when requested by the public under the Freedom of Information Act.
So, how do they KNOW? How did Trump inform THEM that he "declassified" the docs? How? How do they know which documents to protect and which ones to release?
Tell me, what does a declassified document look like?
Do you know?
If you look at the documents right now, and they are still marked as classified, complete with codewords, how do you know they are declassified?
How? Be specific, show your work, including the proper references.
If you're the news media, a so-called journalist, these are the answers you should be demanding from those alleged "experts" you keep putting on your shows and allowing to babble on without question or pushback.
This is your goddamn duty to the Republic.
Get after it.

Re: FBI Raid on Mar-A-Lago
Can we please all agree that this experiment of giving a dumb TV host and shady real estate developer with no government experience, 6 bankruptcies, 68 charges of sexual assault, 7,300 lawsuits, and $1,000,000,000 in debt our nuclear secrets did not go well at all?
And the Saudis gave Jared Kushner 2$ Billion for….?
I suspect this investigation has been going on for a loooog time:
It’s over for guilty little donnie. He may avoid prison, but he’s done for….

According to the search warrant Trump is under investigation for violations of the Espionage Act.
