Stayman Wildfire Update - July 20, 2021 9:00 a.m.

Stayman Flats Fire Update
July 20, 2021 9:00 a.m.
Fire Information Line: 360-706-3121 (Daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
Size: 1,200 acres
Total Personnel: 125
Containment: 30%
Cause: Lightning/Under investigation
Structures Threatened: 37 single residences
Structures Lost: 0

The Stayman Flats Fire was first reported on July 18 at approximately 2:35 p.m. The fire is burning in grass and brush in difficult terrain. High resources were ordered and multiple crews and aircraft responded.
A Type 3 Incident Management Team led by Incident Commander Escobar took command of the firefighting response at 7:00 a.m. on July 19. Additional resources were ordered and received.

The fire is burning in brush and grass. It was first assessed at 35 acres and grew to approximately 1200 acres. Multiple engine crews, air resources and heavy equipment are on scene. Evacuation orders are currently impacting 37 homes or structures. No major injuries have been reported to residents or firefighting personnel.

Air resources provided heavy attack on the fire throughout July 18 and 19. Aircraft are using local bodies of water, including Lake Chelan, to fill. Recreational boaters should be aware of aircraft takeoff and landings and keep a safe distance.
This operational period, crews will engage in direct attack on both flanks of the fire with the goal of securing and increasing containment. Crews will also cold-trail the edges of the fire perimeter to prevent flare-ups. Multiple aircraft from Washington DNR will be on standby as needed by crews on the ground.
Evacuations and Closures: The most up-to-date evacuation information is available through Chelan County Emergency Management at the following link:
Chelan County Emergency Management
Per Chelan County Emergency Management, as of 10:00 a.m. on July 20, 2022: All Evacuations will be reduced to Level 1. All remaining Level 1 notices continue to hold.

Level 1: Downie Canyon Road and Hawks Ridge Road
Level 1: Stayman Flats Road, from milepost 2 to the end of the road. This applies to the north side of the road in this area.
Hwy 97A, from Knapps Tunnel to Downie Canyon Road. This applies to the east side of the highway.
Little Butte Ranch Road, Chucker Hill Road and all roads off of Hawks Meadows Road, Chucker Run, Eagle Crest Road and Dove Hollow Road.
A "stand-by" emergency shelter has been established at Chelan High School. The shelter will be opened on an as-needed basis. Anyone displaced by the fire can call the American Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767. Red Cross representatives will meet you at the shelter. This is not a drop-in shelter. Please make sure to use the telephone number in advance.

Weather: Today's forecast is sunny with a high near 93. Winds will be light and variable in the morning, becoming westerly in the afternoon. Afternoon wind speeds are forecast to 11mph. Gusts could reach 22mph depending on terrain.
Smoke Information: Lower evening temperatures and moderate winds helped to clear smoke across much of the fire area. Visit https://wasmoke.blogspot.com/ for local air quality information.

Fire Restrictions: An outdoor burn ban is in place for most of Central and Eastern Washington. Campfire restrictions vary throughout the region. Visit https://www.dnr.wa.gov/burn-restrictions for the most up-to-date campfire and burn information.

Update from DNR on the Stayman Flats Fire, now at 1,200 acres.
Washington State Department of Natural Resources

DNR continues to respond to the Stayman Flats Fire, currently at 1,200 acres and 30% contained. With dozer lines in place on both flanks, two hand crews and other resources on the ground, and sizable air assets being deployed, we are working hard to get this fire contained.

Chelan County Emergency Management

Last post of the night: Evacuation levels will be kept at their current levels overnight. There was one address on Stayman Flats Road that was at a Level 3 -- that property will be lowered to a Level 1 like the rest of the properties on that roadway. For the rest, evacuation levels will be re-evaluated in the morning.
We'll have an update for you in the morning. Thanks, everyone, for your continued support!

Update: Evacuation levels have not changed. We estimate the size of the fire at 750 acres. We are working on setting up an emergency shelter for those who may need it. More details to come on that. Keep your fingers crossed this wind dies down when the sun goes down!
