Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 CFR § 261.50(a) and (b), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Methow Valley Ranger District of the OkanoganWenatchee National Forest.
This Order is effective July 20th, 2021, through December 31, 2021, unless rescinded sooner.
PROHIBITIONS:
1. Entering into or being upon National Forest System lands, as described below and displayed on the attached map, Exhibit A [36 CFR § 261.53(e)].
2. Being on a National Forest System trail, as described below and displayed on the attached map, Exhibit A [36 CFR § 261.55(a)].
3. Being on a National Forest System Road as described below and displayed on the attached map, Exhibit A [36 CFR § 261.54(e)].
CLOSURE AREA DESCRIPTION: The closure area begins at the junction of NFS Rd 5100000 Chewuch and the FS boundary at T36NR21ES35, and extends northwest, then south and west following the FS boundary. It continues west to T35NR20ES14, just at the point the FS boundary touches SR20, and turns north following the western edge of T35NR20ES14 and S11. It then follows the southern edge of T35NR20ES3 to its intersection with NFS Rd 5217100 Fawn Creek East. It follows Rd 5217100 to its intersection with private road Highland Rd, and follows the private road west, then resumes following the FS boundary north to T36NR20ES33. It then follows the southern edge of T36NR20ES33, then the western edge of T36NR20ES33, and then the southern edge of T36NR20ES29 until it intersects NFS Rd 5200000 Cub Goat Creek. It then follows Rd 5200000 north to the junction with NFS Rd5225000 Blackpine Basin in T36NR20ES29, and then north following and Rd 5200000. The portion of road Rd 5200000 between the Goat Creek Rd. and Rd 5225000 will remain open. It then follows Rd 5200000 north to T37NR20ES34 where it crosses Goat Creek. The closure follows Goat Creek north and west to T37NR20ES22 where Cougar Creek joins. It follows Cougar Creek drainage to its high point at the summit of McLeod Mountain at 8,099 feet, T37NR20ES18. At McLeod Mountain, it follows the Pasayten Wilderness boundary north to T39NR20ES10 and then east and north to T39NR23ES30. At the intersection of the Pasayten Wilderness boundary and the boundary between the Methow Valley RD and the Tonasket RD, it turns south and follows the district boundary line to its intersection with NFS Rd 3900000 in T37NR23ES29. It follows NFS Rd 3900000 and the district boundaries south to the intersection of NFS Rd 3900000 and NFS Rd 3700000 in T36NR23ES8. NFS Rd390000 will remain open. NFS Rd 3700000 from intersection with NFS Rd 3900000 west will be closed. It then follows NFS Rd 3700000 south to T36NR23ES22 where it resumes following the Ranger District boundary south. At T35NR23ES4 it intersects Trail #354 Golden Stairway and follows Trail #354 and the district boundary south. Trail 354 will remain open. At the intersection of the district boundary / Trail 354 and NFS Rd 4235000 Starvation Mountain in T35NR23ES15 it follows Rd 4235000 south to the intersection with Trail #321 Shrew Creek in T35NR23ES22. The portion of Rd 4235000 between the intersection with Trail #321 and Trail #354 will remain open. The remainder of Rd 4235000 from the intersection of Trail #321 south to its beginning point on Rd 4200000. The area closure boundary then follows Trail #321 east to the intersection with the Ranger District boundaries and then resumes following the district boundary south to Granite Mountain in T35NR23ES25. At Granite Mountain it follows the high point of the ridge southwest to Trail #356 Granite Mountain and then east back to the district boundary in T35NR24ES30. It then resumes following the district boundary south to its intersection with NFS Rd 4200000 in T34NR24ES20. It then turns west following Rd 4200000 to its intersection with NFS Rd 4225000 South Fork Beaver in T34NR23ES25. Rd 4200000 will remain open. It then follows Rd 4225000 west to the intersection with County Rd 1637 Upper Beaver Creek in T34NR22ES24. Rd 4225000 and Rd 4225200 Volstead Creek are included in the closure. It then follows the NFS boundary west and north to return to the starting point at the intersection of NFS Rd 5100000 Chewuch in T36NR21ES35.
All trails within the Pasayten Wilderness and on the Tonasket Ranger District will remain open.

EXEMPTIONS:
Pursuant to 36 CFR § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this order:
1. Any federal, state, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting
force int he performance of an official duty.
2. Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails,
or Areas Restricted by Regulation Order), specifically authorizing the otherwise
prohibited act or omission.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.
Violations of this prohibition are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both (16 U.S.C.
§ 551; 18 U.S.C. §§ 3551, 3559, 3571, and 3581).
