Winthrop, WA — The Cedar Creek, Cub Creek 2 and Delancy Fires are burning on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and public and private lands within Okanogan County.
Fire Information Line: 509-557-0740 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm daily)
Cedar Creek Fire: The fire has been mapped at 54,261 acres and reached. 50% containment. Suppression efforts will focus on expected active fire activity in the Little Bridge Creek, South Fork Wolf Creek, Hubbard Creek, Silver Star Creek, Cedar Creek, Sheep Creek, Little Boulder Creek and Gardner Meadows. In Division Juliet mop-up of direct line from Thompson Ridge to Roads 4415 and Helispot 15 will continue. Mop-up operations will continue in the Vasaliki Ridge area. Night shift crews secured and held line last night.
Noticeably cooler and cloudy weather weakened the extreme fire weather conditions yesterday. Today will bring some breezy north and northwest wind to the region and a chance for showers and possibly an afternoon thunderstorm. Showers don’t necessarily mean much precipitation. It will however be the coolest day of this week with valleys struggling to reach 80 degrees. Clouds will hang around in the early morning and afternoon hours.
Cub Creek 2 Fire: The Cub Creek Fire is 69,678 acres and 65% contained. The fire has reached the lookout on Twenty Mile Peak as it grows further north. The lookout is still standing and firefighters will get in to inspect it when conditions are safe to do so. Along 8 Mile Rd., near the Honeymoon and Ruffed Grouse Campground crews are monitoring several spot fires where wind caused fire activity to pick up. The wind is blowing the fire back into itself. On the area of open line in the southern portion of the Cub Creek 2 Fire east of Ramsey Peak fire managers are keeping an eye on an area the grew out on Monday. Air resources will be used to work this flank.
Delancy Fire: The 223 acre Delancy Fire has not moved for several days and is 95% contained. No heat has been detected for the second day of Infrared flights.
Fire Weather: Expect gusty west and northwest winds in the afternoon and evening. Much cooler aire will move into the region today. Temperatures in the mountains will be in the 70s and in the 80 in the valleys. Smoke will be less prevalent as fresh breezes continue throughout the day.
Evacuations: The community of Mazama (west) remains in a Level 2 evacuation status.

Cedar Creek Fire: The fire has been mapped at 53,475 acres and is now 50% contained. Firefighters will continue mopping up the direct fire line in the Thompson Ridge area. Direct line will be secured from Highway 20 to the rockslide area of Vasiliki Ridge. Fuel breaks continue to be constructed in the Twisp River area. Night shift crews secured and held line last night.
Moderate fire behavior was observed on the northern end of the fire yesterday as winds pushed spot fires back into areas of unburned vegetation. Mop up has begun on the northern flank after crews worked to secure direct line in the area.
Todays winds are expected to be gusty, west and northwest, in the afternoon through the evening as a cold front moves into the area. Cooler temperatures, 70s in the mountains and 80sin the valleys are to be expected. Fire activity is likely to increase as the wind fans remaining pockets of fuel in the interior ignite.
Cub Creek 2 Fire: The Cub Creek Fire is 67,458 acres and 55% contained. Moderate fire behavior was observed yesterday with short crown runs, short range-spotting and group torching observed. Smaller diameter dead/downed fuel moisture will reduce with direct sunlight through the burn period allowing for more efficient ignition. The fire will continue moving north between the Chewuch River and lower slopes of North Twentymile Peak.
Delancy Fire: The 223 acre Delancy Fire has not moved for several days and is 90% contained.

Cedar Creek, Cub Creek 2 and Delancy Fires
Daily Update
August 15, 2021
Winthrop, WA — The Cedar Creek, Cub Creek 2 and Delancy Fires are burning on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and public and private lands within Okanogan County.
Fire Information Line: 509-557-0740 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm daily)
Cedar Creek Fire: The fire has been mapped at 53,475 acres and is 50% contained. Firefighters are securing lines to the northwest of the Twisp River drainage. Contingency lines, consisting of shaded fuel breaks, are being built in the Canyon Creek area. These contingency lines are connecting old fire scars to slow fire spread to the south toward the community of Twisp. In areas where the fireline has been declared controlled crews have begun backhauling excess supplies and equipment.
Minimal fire behavior was observed on the northern end of the fire. Mop up has begun on the northern flank after crews worked to secure direct line in the Vasiliki Ridge area.
Todays wind is expected to push the fire back into it’s existing footprint. Fire activity is likely to increase as the wind fans remaining pockets of fuel in the interior ignite.
Cub Creek 2 Fire: The Cub Creek Fire is 67,458 acres and 55% contained. The fire remains active on the northern edges of the fire, with some spot fires and creeping. On the northwest flank firefighters are monitoring some spot fires that have been challenging to extinguish due to the terrain. The perimeter
around the Brevicomis Summer Homes has been largely secured but firefighters are remaining in the area. The fire near Lake Creek continues to push north into the 2003 Farewell Fire scar, slowly burning through the dead and downed fuels. Firefighters are mopping up along the 51 Road where they can access and are monitoring interior fire. The northeast flank is slowly creeping around to the east, and with today’s anticipated winds the fire will likely be pushed into more rocky terrain minimizing fire behavior. Suppression repair and hazard tree mitigation is ongoing in many areas across the southern perimeters of the fire.
Delancy Fire: The 223 acre Delancy Fire has not moved for several days and is 85% contained. IR surveys have not shown heat within the perimeter.
Fire Weather: A Red Flag Warning is in effect for today. Winds are expected to be gusting at 20-30 mph from the west, with winds picking up around 3pm on the Cedar Creek and Cub Creek 2 fires, and 5pm on the Muckamuck Fire. A colder air mass is moving across the Cascades. The winds will move a large amount of the smoke out of the area, allowing the sun to reach the fuels and dry them out, increasing fire behavior. Expect to see smoke columns visible from both fires tomorrow.
Evacuations: The community of Mazama (west) remains in a Level 2 evacuation status.

Cedar Creek, Cub Creek 2 and Delancy Fires
Daily Update
August 14, 2021
Winthrop, WA — The Cedar Creek, Cub Creek 2 and Delancy Fires are burning on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and public and private lands within Okanogan County.
Fire Information Line: 509-557-0740 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm daily)
Cedar Creek Fire: The fire has been mapped at 53,215 acres, slightly less than previously reported, and is 50% contained. Forward spread on the north and southeast flanks of the fire has been halted. Firefighters are now focused on securing lines on the southern and western edges of the fire to keep the fire from threatening residences in the Twisp River drainage. As a contingency, in the Canyon Creek area work is continuing on the shaded fuel break on the north side of the Twisp River. This is expected to be completed within the next few days. When completed, shaded fuel breaks will extend along the north side of the Twisp River from Deer Creek south to Bridge Creek, from Twisp River north along Canyon Creek and the 050 Road, and following Bridge Creek to the 092 Road.
On the north end, just west of the Early Winter Campground, crews have set up sprinkler systems to extinguish pockets of heat in an area too dangerous to insert firefighters due to multiple unstable dead trees. The sprinklers are running continuously.
Fire crews have made substantial progress improving control lines in the Vasiliki Ridge area.
Air operations continue at Patterson Lake. The lake is closed, but flights have been disrupted several times by citizens attempting to access the lake. Being under a working helicopter is dangerous. If you enter the area, the aircraft will be pulled off for your safety, and work on the fire will be delayed. Please give firefighting aircraft room to work.
Cub Creek 2 Fire: The Cub Creek Fire is 66,883 acres and 55% contained. The fire is growing slowly to the north and west, burning actively both night and day. Firefighters have been focusing on preparing the area around the Brevicomis cabins off the 51 Road. The Honeymoon Campground area is another area of concern. Several spot fires have been discovered there just over the line. Crews have been working to extinguish those spots and are making good progress. Many areas with open line are backing slowly down hill consuming surface fuels and occasionally torching single trees. On the ridge tops in areas with continuous fuels sustained crown runs were observed yesterday and are likely to occur as the winds change this weekend. Suppression repair is also in progress. Hazard trees are being identified and removed along the fire’s edge. There are currently 330 firefighters assigned to the incident.
Delancy Fire: The Delancy is 223 acres, is being actively monitored, but is unstaffed.
Fire Weather: An Excessive Heat Warning has been declared for Saturday. The current weather pattern will be changing over the weekend. As a ridge of high pressure moves off to the east westerly ridge top winds will be picking up in the afternoon clearing smoke and increasing visibility. The clear air will allow the fuel to heat up as it is exposed to sunlight. This will bring more active fire behavior.
Evacuations: The community of Mazama (west) remains in a Level 2 evacuation status.

The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has implemented a Fire Emergency Area Closure as of July 22nd, 2021. The Closure includes facilities, roads, and trails. The Closure may be viewed in its entirety at the “Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires 2021” Facebook page.
Fire Restrictions: Campfire restrictions are in effect. Campfires are prohibited throughout the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, including developed campgrounds and congressionally designated Wilderness — call local ranger district offices for more information. https://tinyurl.com/yby4oysq
Driving In the Area: Communities in the fire area are currently open. Visitors and local residents are encouraged to exercise caution when driving in the area. Smoke has reduced visibility increasing the potential for accidents. Use headlights when driving in smoke and please stay focused on the road.

Cedar Creek, Cub Creek 2, and Delancy Fires
Daily Update
August 13, 2021
Winthrop, WA — The Cedar Creek, Cub Creek 2 and Delancy Fires are burning on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and public and private lands within Okanogan County. As of 6:00 a.m. this morning these fires are being managed by California Incident Management Team 2 (CIIMT2) under the command of Mike Minton.
Fire Information Line: 509-557-0740 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm daily)
Fire Weather: Today will be mostly sunny in the morning, becoming partly cloudy. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms after 1600. Temperatures will range from 96 to 102 degrees in valleys and 81 to 85 degrees at ridgetops. Relative humidity should be between 15 and 20 percent in low lying areas and 19 to 24 at higher elevations.
Cedar Creek Fire: The fire is currently estimated at 54,442 acres and is 41% contained.
At 6 AM this morning, command of the Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires was transferred from Great Basin Team 1 to CIIMT2. Team 2 will build upon the great work done by the previous teams and is committed to maintaining the positive relationships that exist with the local communities.
Fire crews have made substantial progress in the Vasiliki Ridge area. Today they will continue to improve and strengthen control features.
The perimeter along the WA-20 Corridor is contained from Silver Star Creek, south to Wolf Creek, with the exception of one section near the Early Winter Campground. A high concentration of standing dead and fire damaged trees have made it difficult for crews to complete mop up. Sprinklers are being used to extinguish hot spots by soaking the burned area along the fire’s edge.
On the southeast end of the fire, the map is now showing containment down the 4410 Road and looping back up Thompson Ridge along the 040 Road. Firefighters are mopping up dozer line running up Thompson Ridge to Cabin Creek, down to Sheep Creek, and on to the 4415 Road, and then from Sheep Creek, north up the 4415 Road along Little Bridge Creek, to the wilderness boundary.
Today smoke was visible rising from within the fire perimeter. The fire has remained within its current footprint and acreage remains unchanged.
Construction of contingency lines in the Twisp River Valley is proceeding. Heavy equipment is being used to remove ground fuels and to thin trees. When completed, shaded fuel breaks will extend along the north side of the Twisp River from Deer Creek south to Bridge Creek, from Twisp River north along Canyon Creek and the 050 Road, and following Bridge Creek to the 092 Road. These lines will give firefighters a good defensive feature to work from if fire were to come out of the wilderness and move south into the Twisp River Valley.
Delancy Fire: The Delancy is 223 acres, is being actively monitored, but is unstaffed.
Resources: Total personnel – 521 firefighters and 154-line supervision and support personnel.
Cub Creek 2 Fire: The Cub Creek Fire is 66,855 acres and 54% contained. The fire is growing slowly to the north and west, burning actively both night and day. Dead and downed fuels at the base of Farewell Creek are holding heat. Further east the fire is flanking above Twentymile Creek. Today firefighters will be addressing hazard trees that are a threat to the established line. The search for any hot spots near the line will focus on the area of the 51 Road from Brevicomis cabins to Lake Creek. Suppression repair is also in progress.
Resources: Total personnel - 411
