Yes, you can get local stations via several of the apps, but we haven't explored that very much. If you are a sports fan, you may want to pay for an app that provides college ball, NFL coverage, but there again you can cancel most of the apps at any time so you're not locked in. But if you get an antenna, you may be able to get the sports anyway via the free stations the antenna will pick up.

Don't need a ROKU TV, just a smart TV (most of the flat screen TVs are smart TVs).

Do you have any local stations through Roku?

This is the motivation I needed. I sure could use that $93 a month Dish payment back. We don’t need anything that is technically hard. The old brain ain’t what it used to be!! Hearing you found it easy enough helps.

When you buy the stick, you just need a smart tv, not a Roku tv, right?

We ditched our $85/month DISH connection about a year ago and went to ROKU. You buy the ROKU stick (about $30-40) and follow the installation instructions. You have to have an internet connection and a smart TV. You can add more apps to your ROKU if you want, but you will pay a monthly fee. There are so many free apps provided by ROKU, we hardly ever pay for more. I do get STARZ when I want to watch Outlander, but I can cancel at any time.

I would encourage you to get ROKU (or any of the other similar providers) and give it a try. It took us a few weeks to get used to it, but it is well worth it.

PS: We are NOT tech savvy (I am 75, husband is 83).

I’ll check out Roku too. We have internet wired directly thru the wall into the tv. Our wireless is strong elsewhere also. Thanks!

Got rid of Dish and Netflix went to Roku buy it one time and done there are several add ons you can buy to get what you need if you really need them. Just need the net and wifi

I am in a marginal area for getting a strong signal. Paul steered me onto the correct tv antenna to get.
Works great and wasn’t much $$, as I recall.

We do. We now stream Netflix (is this the Internet type of tv you were thinking?) and that seems to be plentiful. Would like to get some local channels for news and such, before we cut off Dish …
