To trap or not to trap

Post by Jingles »

I know there are several other folks that engage in trapping furbearers and numerous folks in the Valley that disagree with trapping, there are even those that when they find traps do their best to destroy or prevent said traps from functioning properly.
Well several years ago it was decided that body gripping traps could not be used in the "recreational" trapping of furbearers,, consequently for the most part, except by certified and permitted Nuisance Wildlife Control Operators, only live traps can be used, with a few exceptions
As has been experienced by a few of the local trappers, there are individuals (nontrappers) that have pulled or tampered with legally placed traps, which is a violation of RCW 77.15.180 Unlawful Interference with fishing or Hunting gear and RCW 77.15.210 Ostructing the taking of fish, shellfish or wildlife.
Be advised that the penalty for violating either or both these RCW's is a Gross Misdemeanor and could result in 364 days in Jail and or up to a $5000.00 fine per charge
Not asking anyone to change their attitudes or feelings about trapping but reminding everyone that trapping with certain equipment is legal and unless they are your traps leave them alone.
