Unfortunately in the very short term vaccines won't help at all. Here's why:

You only get full immunity from the Pfizer or Moderna shots about two weeks after your second shot, so for those shots you aren't protected until you are five or six week out from your first shot.

The J&J vaccine apparently gives full effect three weeks after the shot.

I'd just say that at the rate this thing is going, and how much easier the Delta strain spreads, that three weeks is a very long time.

From the data there is no indication that there is very much delta spreading in Okanogan County, but that is certain to change. And given the reporting delays it might already be actively spreading here we just aren't seeing it yet.

That and the fact that the Delta variant seems to be making younger people sicker much faster than earlier versions should be sobering to us all.

News reports vaccines up 200% in areas hit hard by delta variant.

Also saw on the news a Georgia politician stating that parents should decide whether or not their children should wear masks in school.

In order to preserve their rights, parents should be able to decide if they want their children educated without a mask.

However, that education can be done at home. That way everyone else's right not to be exposed to a potentially deadly disease at school can be preserved.

Didn't the Methow schools stay open during the 1st wave of the pandamic with everyone masked?

Another fun historic fact: the last time those death rates went up that much was during WWII.

Age-adjusted odds of dying in 2019: 1 in 140
Age-adjusted odds of dying in 2020: 1 in 121

That is a huge year-on-year change and 100 percent due to COVID. Due to differing time scales and data sources and the odd way probabilities add it is consistent with the earlier post. Or as consistent as population statistics usually get.

2020 figures are preliminary, but it looks like more Americans died of COVID-19 in 2020 than died of all types of cancer, making the disease the number two cause of death (after heart disease) in 2020.

For ages between 45 and 65 approximately 10 percent of all fatalities were due to COVID.

Your odds of dying from COVID-19 if you are vaccinated: 1 in 100,000
Your odds of dying from COVID-19 if you are not vaccinated: 1 in 550

Any questions?
