Inciweb Fire Update: https://tinyurl.com/4xknm25j and PIO Map: https://tinyurl.com/jeyz23uc
Fire Information Public Phone Line: (406) 426-9595
Email: 2021.cubcreek2@firenet.gov
InciWeb: https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/7675/
Acres: 55,602
Percent Containment: 24%
Date/Time Detected: July 16th. 1:27 PM
Structures burned: 3
Number of Resources: 682
Cause: Under investigation
Origin/Location: 5 miles North of Winthrop, WA.
Yesterday firefighters were able to successfully complete direct suppression lines with the use of heavy equipment and hand crews while continuing to secure and mop up hot spots near Vanderpool Crossing. Firefighters also observed growth along the northwest perimeter as it spread from Doe Creek towards Buck Creek and Doe Mountain. On the northeast flank resources were engaged around the Brevicomis summer homes providing structure protection as winds pushed fire further up Twentymile creek past Honeymoon Creek towards the Chewuch River. Throughout the day aviation operations were hindered over the fire as air quality and visibility remained poor. Today fire fighters will continue to prep and fall hazard trees along FS road 37 and scout along FS road 39 in anticipation of easterly growth. Resources engaged at the Brevicomis summer homes will remain in the area extinguishing hot spots to prevent damage or loss.
Flash flood watch today until 5:00 pm-
WEATHER: Cloudy with periods of showers. A slight chance of thunderstorms during the afternoon. Gusts to 35 mph near thunderstorms. Additional rainfall amount 0.10 to 0.30 inch, unless thunderstorm brings a direct hit, with possible 0.50 to 0.75 inch in 30 minutes.

Smoke Outlook for 8/1/21
Fire
Brisk winds from the NW yesterday led to growth on the Cedar
Creek fire in the area of Thompson Ridge to Gobblers knob,
current size is estimated at 45,719. The Cub Creek 2 fire is
54,858 acres and 24% contained. Intermittent rain, cooler
temperatures, and higher humidity give the firefighters some
good opportunities for progress fighting these fires although
poor visibility may make for limited ability for aerial water
drops.
Smoke
Air quality remains very impaired throughout the Methow
Valley and smoke has now traveled south to affect Chelan,
Wenatchee, and beyond. The Okanogan Valley is not getting a
break from the smoke either as fires in Canada and on the
Colville reservation mean smoke comes their way no matter
which way the wind blows. Smoke accumulated throughout the
Columbia Basin overnight and most monitors east of the
Cascades are showing impaired air quality. Areas that have
avoided smoke impacts thus far in the fire season are now
experiencing impaired conditions.
Health
Try to do what you can to reduce the amount of smoke you
breathe - run home and car air conditioning on recirculate and
don't go outside when air quality is impaired. Do you know
how to check your local air quality? Try out the map at
fire.airnow.gov for current conditions.

Thank you for the additional details and map.. This forum is ahead of the official sites in some cases
This IR supports my gut feeling about a wrap around below Patterson, then Winthrop in an even more precarious situation. IMO

Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires
Evening Update
July 31, 2021
Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest
Winthrop, WA — The Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires are burning on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest in steep and rocky terrain with heavy dead and down fuel loading. These fires are being managed by Great Basin Incident Management Team 1.
Fire Information Line - Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires: 509-557-0740 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm)
Public Meetings: Two public meetings will be hosted by the Southern Area IMT 2 and Great Basin IMT 1.
Representatives from Southern Area and Great Basin IMTs will provide detailed updates on the Cub Creek 2, Cedar Creek, and Delancy Fires. Okanogan County Emergency Manager Maurice Goodall will discuss evacuation status, and spokespersons from the US Forest Service and other community representatives will be available to take your questions.
The first meeting will be held Monday, August 2, 2021, at 6 pm in Mack Lloyd Park next to the Red Barn at 51 State Route 20, Winthrop. The following night, on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at 6 pm a meeting will be held in Twisp River Park, 325 North Lincoln Street in Twisp. Both meetings will feature the same speakers and provide the same information.
Fire Weather: The day began with warm temperatures and light upslope/upvalley winds. In the afternoon winds began transitioned to a west, northwest flow and wind speeds increased. The change in wind direction and speed helped fuel considerably higher fire behavior. The front that brought the changes in wind direction will also bring rain showers to the fire area. The rain is forecast to begin late this evening and continue into the early hours of Sunday morning. The amount of rain will vary over the area of the fire but could be moderate to heavy in some locations. While a brief rain will not put out the fire, it should serve to moderate fire behavior. Crews on the ground will take advantage of this opportunity to improve and strengthen control features.
Cedar Creek Fire: The fire is currently estimated at 41,142 acres and is 17% contained.
Increased fire activity in Silver Star Creek and along the Vasiliki Ridge was observed. The fire burned along the western edge of Vasiliki Ridge and pushed towards Silver Star Mountain.
Increased fire behavior around Goblers Knob and the Graff Creek drainage spread east towards Thompson Creek Road to the west of Pine Forest and resulted in additional evacuations for residents of the Twisp River Valley from Poorman Creek Road to the Buttermilk area. Fire crews and dozers will work through the night to hold the fire to the Thompson Creek Road and west of Pine Forest.
For more information on evacuation status, please visit the Okanogan County Emergency Management’s interactive map page at: https://bit.ly/CedarCreekEvac
Work along the WA-20 Corridor continued with firefighters mopping up and scouting to ensure that hot spots near structures were located and extinguished. Other crews chipped slash generated by fire suppression operations. A concentrated effort is being made to achieve containment along WA-20 and make it possible to repopulate the area.
Multiple strike teams of state and local engines (state mobilization) continued with structure protection and patrolled homes along the fire perimeter.
Delancy Fire: Last night, although the fire did not grow beyond its current footprint, single tree torching was observed within the Delancy fire perimeter. Fire crews working in the Vasiliki Ridge – Silver Star Creek area were able to monitor the fire from their location. The estimated size of the Delancy Fire remains at 223 acres.

Wildfire Ready Neighbors (House Assessments): https://wildfireready.dnr.wa.gov/
Resources: Total personnel - 830: 4 - type 4 hotshot crews, 11 - type 2 hand crews, 2 - type 2 initial attack hand crews, 2 - camp crews, 8 - type 1 (heavy) helicopters, 1 - type 2 helicopter, 2 - type 3 helicopter, 68 - engines, 6 - dozers, 22 - water tenders,1 - masticator, 2 - skidgen, 4 – skidders, 4 – excavators, 4 – feller bunchers, and 186 line supervision & support personnel.
Closures: For the safety of the firefighters and aircraft fighting these fires, a temporary flight restriction (TFR) has been placed over the area. Please consult the “Notice to Airmen” (NOTAM) for specifics. Wildfires are a “No Drone Zone” and any drones sighting in a TFR will immediately impede aerial firefighting resources and delay suppression actions.
State Route 20 (North Cascades Highway) remains closed at milepost 185 (7 miles west of Winthrop) to milepost 165 to all traffic due to fire activity.
The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has implemented a Fire Emergency Area Closure as of July 22nd, 2021. The Closure includes facilities, roads, and trails. The Closure may be viewed in its entirety at the “Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires 2021” Facebook page.
The Forest Service Fire Emergency Area Closure is separate from the Washington State Department of Transportation’s (WSDOT) closure of portions of State Route 20 and may change or be lifted at different times depending on operational needs. WSDOT is working closely with the Forest Service and Okanogan County to identify where fire activity and firefighting operations warrant closure.
Evacuation Information: The Okanogan County Emergency Management (OCEM) continues to reevaluate evacuation levels. For the most up to date evacuation levels see the OCEM’s website above. Residents entering Evacuation Level 3 areas need to slow down and watch for firefighters and equipment in roadways.
Air Quality: Smoke impacts to communities near the fires remains unhealthy to hazardous. A wind change plus a little precipitation in the area of Cedar Creek and Cub Creek 2 fires should quiet the fires and decrease smoke overnight although the amount of precipitation will not be enough to put the fires out. Smoke accumulations throughout the Columbia Basin will result in decreased air quality in Chelan today, although conditions should improve tomorrow.
Fire Restrictions: Campfire restrictions are in effect. Campfires are prohibited throughout the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, including developed campgrounds and congressionally designated Wilderness — call local ranger district offices for more information. https://tinyurl.com/yby4oysq

#CubCreek2 National Fire Situational Awareness Map
We did not receive an Infrared Flight (IR) last night but the National Fire Situational Awareness map shows the MODIS and VIRS detection. While Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) have similar orbits, the spatial resolution of the “thermal bands” on each sensor differs. The MODIS thermal band detects hot spots with a resolution of 1,000 meters per pixel; VIIRS detects hot spots at a resolution of 375 meters per pixel. In other words, VIIRS makes fire observations that are about three times more detailed than MODIS. As a result, VIIRS can detect many small and low-temperature fires that MODIS misses.

As of 1800 last night CA IMT1 transferred command of the Cub Creek 2 Fire to Southwest Area Type 1 Incident Management Team 2. Yesterday crews continued to improve containment lines along the west and southwestern flank securing hot pots. The northern portion of the fire continues to remain in its current footprint having spread into previous burn scars and patchy fuels. Fire growth continued to increase on the northeast flank in Twentymile Creek and on the southeast in Pebble Creek. Today firefighters will continue mop up operations securing containment lines and working the Eightmile Creek Road mitigating hazard trees for public access. On the eastern perimeter resources will be prepping along Forest Service roads 37 & 39 to be utilized as a containment feature.
There is an expected wind shift from the east as a cold front will move over the fire area which will challenge containment lines along the western perimeter, we will see another day of 100-degree temperatures and low relative humidity’s ranging from 10 to 15%. With the change in wind direction smoke from the Cub Creek 2 Fire will move into the Methow Valley impacting Mazama, Winthrop, and Twisp.

Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires
Morning Update
July 31, 2021

Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest
Winthrop, WA — The Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires are burning on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest in steep and rocky terrain with heavy dead and down fuel loading. These fires are being managed by Great Basin Incident Management Team 1.
Fire Information Line - Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires: 509-557-0740 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm)
Public Meetings: Two public meetings will be hosted by Southern Area IMT 2 and Great Basin IMT 1.
Representatives from Southern Area and Great Basin IMTs will provide detailed updates on the Cub Creek 2, Cedar Creek, and Delancy Fires. Okanogan County Emergency Manager Maurice Goodall will discuss evacuation status. Spokespersons from the US Forest Service and other community representatives will be available to answer your questions.
On Monday, August 2, 2021, at 6 pm a meeting will be held in Mack Lloyd Park next to the Red Barn at 51 State Route 20, Winthrop. On Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at 6 pm a meeting will be held in Twisp River Park, 325 North Lincoln Street in Twisp. Both meetings will feature the same speakers and provide the same information. There is no need to attend both meetings.
Fire Weather: Today will start out sunny and dry over the fire area. Temperatures will reach 90 to 97-degrees in the valleys and 79 to 85 at higher elevations. Relative humidity will be low with readings of 15 to 20-percent at lower elevations and 17 to 25-percent along the ridge tops. Winds will be light, downslope/downvalley in the morning, changing to upslope/upvalley in the afternoon. Late in the day a front will move into the area. Thunderstorms over the fire area have the potential to deliver one tenth to one quarter inch of precipitation late Saturday night and into Sunday morning.
Cedar Creek Fire: The fire is currently estimated at 41,142 acres and is 17% contained.
Fire has crossed the Silver Star Creek and has burned to the top of Vasiliki Ridge. Firefighters are working to develop a plan to prevent further growth to the west.
Work in the Little Wolf Creek, Little Bridge Creek, and Thompson Ridge area is continuing as firefighters strengthen control features. Once completed, these fire lines will tie into the old Little Bridge Fire burn scar. Fire managers are hopeful that the fire will burn less aggressively in the burn scare due to the scarcity of heavy fuels, and thus provide opportunities for containment.
Structure protection remains a top priority with multiple strike teams of state and local engines (state mobilization) patrolling homes along the fire perimeter.
Delancy Fire: No significant fire activity has been observed in several days. Fire crews and aircraft continue to monitor the Delancy fire and will take appropriate action if any change in fire behavior occurs. The estimated size of the Delancy Fire remains at 223 acres.

Light downslope/downvalley winds will shift to upslope/upvalley winds in the Okanogan Valley with slightly stronger winds in the Methow Valley. Smoke will pool near the fires impacting Mazama, Winthrop, and Twisp with unhealthy to hazardous air quality throughout the day. The Okanogan Valley will have haze with periods of Unhealthy air.

LIGHTNING STRIKES
EDITED 10 pm...
We have gotten several positive strikes and a few negative ones. The positive strikes tend to be more destructive and more than likely cause a fire.
Keep an eye on McKinney Mntn... or at least the fire crews should...
Lats and longs are posted with each strike in the comments. The strike in the picture will have a blue dot with an i in it so you know which one is being portrayed.
And this is what I do every. single. lightning. storm.

Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires
Evening Update
July 30, 2021
Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest
Winthrop, WA — The Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires are burning on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest in steep and rocky terrain with heavy dead and down fuel loading. These fires are being managed by Great Basin Incident Management Team 1.
Fire Information Line - Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires: 509-557-0740 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm)
Fire Weather: Today it will be sunny and dry over the fire area. Temperatures will range from 90 and 97-degrees in the valleys and 79 to 85 at higher elevations. Relative humidity will be low with readings of 15 to 20-percent at lower elevations and 17 to 25-percent along the ridge tops. Winds will be light, downslope/downvalley in the morning, becoming upslope/upvalley in the afternoon. Wind speeds should be 4 to 10-miles per hour, with gusts to 15. There is no precipitation in today’s forecast.
Cedar Creek Fire: The fire is currently estimated at 41,142 acres and is 17% contained.
The fire was active at Milton Mountain in the Little Wolf Creek - Thompson Ridge area today. A smoke column rose to approximately 34,000-feet. Lightening could be seen emanating from within the column, followed by loud bursts of thunder. Fire crews responded using heavy equipment to carve containment lines ahead of the fire. They were supported from the air by two Canadair CL-415 “Superscoopers.” Instead of landing to reload, these amphibious aircraft can scoop from any large body of water and can cycle quickly from the water source to the fire and back again.
Work on the 4410 and 4415 roads below Gobblers Knob is continuing as firefighters strengthen control features. Once completed, these fire lines, linked with dozer lines will tie into the old Little Bridge Fire burn scar. Fire managers are hopeful that the fire will burn less aggressively in the burn scare due to the scarcity of heavy fuels.
A Mobile Retardant Base has been set up off Twisp River Road, 10-miles from the community of Twisp. This plant mixes fire retardant in large tanks. Helicopters can refill at this base and shorten the amount of time between retardant drops on the fire.
Fire has crossed the Silver Star Creek and has crested Vasiliki Ridge. The terrain in this area is steep and rocky, with stringers of heavy timber provided a pathway for fire to travel up the hillside. Firefighters are working to get out in front of the fire and contain its growth to the west.
Pockets of heat remain along the fire perimeter in the Free Stone area. Fire crews are working to strengthen and improve containment lines. Short range spotting near structures was observed, but firefighters were able to quickly respond and control these spots. There was no damage to any of the nearby structures.
A section of fire line to the west of the Sun Mountain Lodge and Patterson Lake is now shown on the fire map as contained. Crews have been working diligently to protect this area and are now confident that there is little chance of fire escaping the perimeter and threating Sun Mountain Lodge.
Structure protection remains a top priority with multiple strike teams of state and local engines (state mobilization) patrolling homes along the fire perimeter.
Delancy Fire: Last nights infrared flight showed some residual heat within the Delancy fire. However, the fire has not increased in size and while smoke may be visible, no significant fire activity has been observed. Fire crews and aircraft continue to monitor the Delancy fire and will take appropriate action if any change in fire behavior occurs. The estimated size of the Delancy Fire is approximately 223 acres.

Closures:
For the safety of the firefighters and aircraft fighting these fires, a temporary flight restriction (TFR) has been placed over the area.
Air Quality: Stagnant air will continue to hamper smoke dispersion today.
