Murdoch jumps on the bandwagon and dumps Trump

'
By Ed Scarce — July 24, 2022
This is what it looks like when Rupert Murdoch decides that Donald Trump isn't going to be the Republican nominee in 2024. Both the NY Post and the Wall Street Journal ran editorials condemning Trump for his actions and inaction on January 6 in the span of a few minutes of each other.

The New York Post’s editorial board said in an editorial published on Friday that former President Trump has proven himself “unworthy” to serve as the country’s president again based on his hours-long refusal to attempt to quell the mob of rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

The editorial is a stepped-up criticism of Trump from a piece the board published last month, which said “it’s time for Republicans to move on” from the former president. The board endorsed Trump for president in 2020.

The editorial from Friday said that the debate over whether Trump’s speech at the Ellipse before the insurrection incited the mob is “somewhat of a red herring” from what it said was a more noteworthy point, that Trump “didn’t lift a finger” to stop the violent riot for three hours and seven minutes.

“It’s up to the Justice Department to decide if this is a crime. But as a matter of principle, as a matter of character, Trump has proven himself unworthy to be this country’s chief executive again,” the board said.

If anything, the Wall Street Journal editorial was even more blunt, calling Trump the president who stood still.

The brute facts remain: Mr. Trump took an oath to defend the Constitution, and he had a duty as Commander in Chief to protect the Capitol from a mob attacking it in his name. He refused. He didn’t call the military to send help. He didn’t call Mr. Pence to check on the safety of his loyal VP. Instead he fed the mob’s anger and let the riot play out.

Character is revealed in a crisis, and Mr. Pence passed his Jan. 6 trial. Mr. Trump utterly failed his.

Gonzo, your disconnection doesn't work. The DoJ kept the case simple, did he refuse to testify, did he refuse to turn over docs? The jury found him guilty.

Beyond that no one is assuming that this verdict creates assumptions, it may be how you work but it's not how the law works. What the verdict does say is that Bannon broke the law. Twice. For a guy who makes a living shouting to the rooftops how he believes in our Constitution he sure didn't hesitate to ignore the Constitution when he thought it would serve his purposes.

Yeah, it always sounds cool to tell others to get a grip. Even used please.
Really, great physical damage was done to the Capitol building and the police as well. You probably liked that.
Trump meddled in Georgia as did others. They should be held accountable.

Two counts of contempt of Congress. Ya, that's a real watershed event. It certainly proves that Trump came within mere seconds of causing the downfall of American democracy. The hearings should now come to close after this bombshell development. Case closed.

Bannon could have been found guilty of contempt if he refused to comply because Congress wanted to know what color underwear he had on the day of the insurrection. Please, get a grip.

Just saw Brannon on TV - talking about an appeal: “We may have lost this battle, but we will win the war. I stand with [guilty little donnie] and the Constitution”.

He is delirious….

The verdicts carry a min of 30 days to a max of 2 years. Sentencing is slated for Oct. Bannon's lawyer said he plans on filing an appeal, which already looks 'like swiss cheese' according to former federal prosecutors.

Bannon could flip, but that's not been part of his identity up til now and he's pissed off enough prosecutors and probably this judge that they may wave him off. His leadership in what are often argued as the worst crimes of political history include working with the Mercers to utiize bots and algorithms to create the '16 influence campaign (remember Cambridge Analytica) then his rampant use and creation of conspiracies for everything from HRC, Covid, Bundy family, climate change, Hunter Biden, immigrants, etc. He never stopped pumping out the conspiracies and he and his Chinese money guy grew enormously wealthy from the grift.

There's much to answer for and I'm sure the Trump supporters who he grifted with the great Wall project would like to see him face justice for that. If, instead, he is sentenced for 2 years and starts serving this year that will put him out of action for '24 and that's a good thing for all of us.

Finally... The bs that was trump and his minions is starting to be addressed...
BREAKING NEWS

Steve Bannon, a former top Trump adviser, was convicted of two counts of contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena from the Jan. 6 panel.
Friday, July 22, 2022 2:59 PM ET

Although Mr. Bannon was found guilty of what amounted to a low-level process crime, his conviction was the first of a close aide to former President Trump to result from one of the chief investigations into the Capitol attack.
