FINAL UPDATE NORTHRUP INFORMATION RELEASE 8:00AM July 26, 2021

Northrup Wildfire
News – 3 days ago
Summary: Southeast Washington Type 3 Interagency Incident Management Team 2 assumed command of the fire on July 23 and is working with the Washington State Patrol-Fire Marshal’s office for this state mobilization.
Evacuations/Road Closures: There are no road closures and no evacuations associated with the Northrup Fire. Grant County Sheriff’s Office lifted all previous evacuation orders for the Northrup Fire on July 25.

Yesterday: On the east side of the fire, a helicopter transported firefighters to their work sites because of vehicle inaccessibility in that area due to steep, rocky terrain. After being flown to the top of the rim, firefighters secured the fire’s eastern border during the shift and then hiked for an hour and forty minutes down to the highway in the evening. In the northern section of the fire, resources identified sections of lingering heat and utilized helicopter bucket drops of water to cool them during mop up. At the end of the day’s successful operational period, most of the fire line resources were released from the Northrup fire.

Today: At 7:00 a.m. this morning, management of the fire was transferred to a local command organization with the Bureau of Land Management, who will continue to monitor and secure the fire over the next few days. The three remaining engines are engaged in mop-up, patrolling, and repair. Unburned sections of fuels within containment lines will continue to consume over the next few days, so smoke coming from the interior of the fire perimeter may still be visible.

This incident management team will demobilize at 12:00 p.m. This is our last update for the Northrup Fire. Southeast Washington Type 3 Interagency Incident Management Team 2 wants to thank the community for hosting us, as well as the fire resources and all those who provided logistical support.

Evacuations: Residences east of Highway 155 between milepost 18 and Osborn Bay Campground Road are at Evacuation Level 1. SR155 and Steamboat Rock State Park are open.

Provided this continued success, resources are preparing to transition command of the fire back to local units. Firefighters on the line are engaged in mop up today. Unburned islands of fuel within the perimeter of the fire will continue to burn throughout the day, which may lead to moderate smoke output. Visit wasmoke.blogspot.com for local air quality updates.
