Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires 2021

Minimal fire behavior occurred in the Cedar Creek Fire this week, with limited isolated creeping and some torching in the Varden Creek drainage and near Slate Lake. On the Cub Creek 2 Fire, some creeping has been observed around the Farewell and Lake Creek vicinity. No activity was observed on the Delancy Fire. Cooler temperatures and higher humidities are expected across both fires this weekend, reducing the likelihood of active fire behavior and smoke production for the next few days.
Crews and heavy equipment continue to complete suppression repair across both fire areas, repairing firelines, felling hazard trees along roads, chipping debris, and repairing roads damaged by suppression activity. The shortage of personnel and equipment nationally, plus the need to prioritize these resources for active fires with immediate suppression needs, have slowed the progress of this work on the Cedar Creek and Cub Creek 2 fires.
Closure Area Update:
In the Cedar Creek Fire area, the existing closure order remains unchanged for the next week.
As of September 10, the closure order for the Cub Creek 2 Fire has changed:
* Forest Service Roads 51 and 5160 (west of the Chewuch River) from Eightmile Ranch to Andrews Creek Trailhead are now open.
* Andrews Creek Trailhead and all trails leaving from this site are now open, including Andrews Creek, Little Andrews Creek, Coleman Ridge, and Fire Creek. Past Andrews Creek Trailhead, the road to Thirtymile Trailhead remains closed to allow for completion of road repair work that was scheduled for July but deferred because of fire activity.
* Camp 4 Campground is now open.
* All other campgrounds, dispersed campsites, and trails in the Cub Creek 2 Fire closure area remain closed, including Falls Creek and Chewuch Campgrounds and the trail to Falls Creek Falls.
As more suppression repair work is completed over the next week, district staff will re-assess the extent of closure orders across both fires to look for more opportunities to open areas, trails, and roads. Meanwhile, we appreciate your patience and respect for these closures to ensure the safety of our firefighters and visitors.
For fire-related questions or information, please contact the Methow Valley Ranger District during business hours at 509-996-4000.

Closures: For the safety of the firefighters and aircraft fighting these fires, a temporary flight restriction (TFR) has been placed over the area. Please consult the “Notice to Airmen” (NOTAM) at FAA.gov for specifics. Wildfires are a “No Drone Zone” and any drone sighting in a TFR will lead to the immediate grounding of aerial firefighting resources and delay suppression actions.
The following trails are currently closed: Cedar Creek Trail, Driveway Butte Trail, Lone Fire Trail, Cutthroat NRT Trail, and Wolf Creek Trail.
The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has implemented a Fire Emergency Area Closure as of July 22nd, 2021. The Closure includes facilities, roads, and trails. The Closure may be viewed in its entirety at the “Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires 2021” Facebook page.
Fire Restrictions: Campfire restrictions are in effect. Campfires are prohibited throughout the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, including developed campgrounds and congressionally designated Wilderness — call local ranger district offices for more information. Fire Restrictions Information: https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/okawen/alerts-notices
Driving In the Area: Communities in the fire area are currently open. Visitors and local residents are encouraged to exercise caution when driving in the area. Smoke has reduced visibility increasing the potential for accidents. Use headlights when driving in smoke and please stay focused on the road.
